Matthew Stanton

Matthew is an associate lawyer with Milburn & Associates. His practice is focused on employment law, human rights, and commercial litigation.

Prior to joining Milburn & Associates, Matthew articled at the Toronto office of a national firm. During his articles, Matthew advised clients regarding complex employment matters and commercial litigation, including class actions, constructive dismissals, human rights claims, occupational health and safety, product liability, union grievances, and wrongful dismissals. He also assisted with mediations, arbitrations, and various stages of litigation in Ontario’s courts and tribunals. Matthew was called to the Ontario Bar in 2020.

As a student at Osgoode, Matthew was an avid mooter and volunteer. He competed as an oralist in both the Mathews Dinsdale Labour Arbitration Competition and the Walsh Family Law Moot, where Osgoode was awarded Best Team Overall and Best Appellant Factum. Matthew’s volunteer experience includes acting as a caseworker through Osgoode’s Community and Legal Aid Services Program, which provides pro bono legal services to individuals in disadvantaged communities. Matthew also volunteered with Osgoode’s Mediation Clinic to mediate disputes between parties in Toronto’s Small Claims Court.

Prior to law school, Matthew completed a master’s degree in public administration, worked in provincial politics at Queen’s Park, and taught English in South Korea. Away from the office, Matthew enjoys listening to podcasts, playing basketball, and is a film enthusiast.
